Devious Journal Entry

Mon Mar 3, 2008, 6:38 PM
I'm a writer and classical & jazz musician who did graphic work many years but considered himself more an 'artisan' than an artist. I studied art for years though & did my grad work in the interrelation of the arts, and whenever I can I like to see what artists are creating. My offerings are elsewhere on the web (link below), but here I am a viewer. As I never thought a viewer should love or download a work without saying thank you, I sign up so I can say thank you, leave comments, etc.

Once, when we were looking at the work of Georgia O'Keeffe, a famous critic stood by and muttered, "she paints mainly flowers!" as if O'Keeffe weren't to be taken seriously. It was a sexist comment, and narrow. I turned to the critic and said, "are you serious???" "Yes," he said, "how can you compare her paintings to the masters?" "Because her flowers," I said, "have the cosmos in them!" In a century where artists found meaning in everything from war to the simplest line, it was amazing a critic could believe that "a mere flower" could have anything less than the world in it.

Sorry I can't offer art of my own. This year I'll post a web-page or two for music & writing; but if anyone wants to hear some samples of my sound-work, I'm on Freesounds ([link]) as "Hammerklavier". I say "snippets" because it's a sound site more than music site, and one can't upload compositions there. But at least anyone who sees my comments here can know that I post too, and appreciate what it takes to post one's offerings in front of the world.

Thanks for letting me visit here. It's a genuine pleasure...

Not to be intrusive, but why don't you post some of your writing here, or at least some of the wonderful stuff you've been putting up on Renderosity? Doesn't hurt to have two galleries -- that way more people see your work.

Hope you're feeling better.

Thank you for even noticing! I will be uploading art soon and (eventually) some writing. Writing's a little trickier because I'll be sending it to publications as well. But I'll be posting in any case, and thank you for your kind words! Glad you liked my comments!
:) no problem it is rare that people can construct sentences and as for a paragraph that is out of the question lol
great i think i will watch i am curious to see how it looks

(I always wondered what happens if I reply so many times that this box becomes a 10th of an inch thick.)

thanks for the Friend! I thanked you on your page & I'll reciprocate once I start posting my own work.

As for 'genre', well fiction and poetry (and arts criticism), but style? It's all over the map! I'll be checking out your gallery too...soon as I finish the present work I have to do...
lol, yes the stuff our minds think about to be honest thought at any time when maths is mentioned in any form my mind goes into hibernation lol
